DAUBIGNY'S GARDEN
03:23
|
|||
Foreground of green and pink grass
on the left a green and lilac bush
and a stem of plants
with whitish foliage
In the middle a bed of roses
To the right a hurdle, a wall,
and above the wall a hazel tree
with violet foliage
Then a hedge of lilac a row
of rounded yellow lime trees
The house itself in the background
pink with a roof of bluish tiles
A bench and three chairs a dark
figure with a yellow hat
and in the foreground a black cat
sky pale green.

AUTUMN IN THE WOODS
05:38
|
|||
Now it is autumn in the woods
I am full of it
There's a mild melancholy
in the falling leaves
In the muted light
in the haziness of things
in the elegance of the slender tree trunks
Then I love the more sturdy
rugged side just as much
those strong light effects digging
perspiring in a midday sun

WINTER DAY
05:00
|
|||
It was the kind of weather that
brings back old memories
And the most ordinary things
look so different now
The moon is still shining through the window
of the public room
you can see the snow flickers
and things have corious shadows
There might be a great fire in our soul
and noone ever comes to warm himself at it
The passers-by see only a little bit of smoke
coming through the chimney and pass their way
Let the storm arise
the night descends
which is worse: danger
or the fear of danger
Today while the snow is melting
one feels spring approaching
as it were from afar
and it will not be long before
the lark sings again in the meadow
I long for the spring breazes to blow away
Today while the snow is melting
He feels spring approaching
as it were from afar
and it will not be long before
the lark sings again in the meadow
I long for the spring breazes to blow away

MY DEAR THEO
04:57
|
|||
My dear Theo, my boy
My dear Brother, oh boy
I should paint a portrait of
a man who dreams so great dreams
My dear Theo, my boy
My dear Brother, oh boy
I want to put into my work
all the love I have for him
Nice people will only see / x2
But the picture
oh, the picture
the picture is not finished yet
I'll light the fairness of the hair
And I come
Oh I come
I even come to orange tones
chromes and pale yellow
Nice people will only see / x2

PAINTING
04:23
|
|||
Painting is something in itself
Paintings vaguely present themselves to my sight
I don't say that my work is good
but it's the least bad that I can do
I live from day to day
the weather is so fine
let us go quietly
on our way working for ourselves
Painting is as difficult to make
as a diamond is to find
so it's important to strike while the iron is hot
and stack up the bars one has forged
Isn't it emotion, sincerity of feeling for nature that guides us
my concentration is becoming more intense,
my touch more certain, my touch more certain
I should warn you that everyone is going to think
I'm working to fast, but don't believe a word of it / x2
Art is long and the life is short
and my heart is in it
I should warn you that everyone is going to think
I'm working to fast, but don't believe a word of it / x2

SEASONS
07:27
|
|||
Summer is not easy to express
summer effect is often ugly
Spring is tender - green young corn
pink apple blossoms
Autumn is the contrast of yellow leaves against
violet tones
Winter is the snow
with black silhouettes
/There is a lot to draw
a lot to draw here/ x 2
I's a good thing in the winter to be deep
in the snow
In the autumn deep in yellow leaves
in summer among the ripe corn
In a spring amid the grass
In summer with the big sky overhead
In the winter by the fireside
and to feel that it will always be so
/The way to love life is
to love many things/ x2
There are many people who imagine words
are nothing
There's the art of lights and colors but
there's the art of words -
they will last just the same
they will last just the same
In a picture I'd like to say something good
in the same way as music
/The night is more alive
more reachly colored/ x2
/There is a lot to draw
a lot to draw here/ x2
/The way to love life is
to love many things/ x2
/There is a lot to draw
a lot to draw here/ x2

SHOWER OF GOLD
05:56
|
|||
I wish everyone could come down here
to the South - like me, like me
The sun shining its bright
yellow rays on the ground
- shower of gold
Now we're having a glorious strong heat
with no wind - just what I want
there is a sun, a light that for want of a better word
I can only call yellow
- shower of gold
How lovely yellow is!
All in the yellow light!
The leaves are beginning to fall
the trees are turning yellow
the yellow increasing each day
- it's as beautiful as the orchads in bloom
There are many echoes of yellow in the soil
wherever the sun beats down there is sulphur yellow
How lovely yellow is!
All in the yellow light!
Shower of gold...

SOWER
04:40
|
|||
Here's a sketch of a sower -
large field with clods
of plowed earth
Pale orange sunsets
making the fields look blue -
glorious yellow suns
What I think is the best life
without even the slightest
shadow of doubt
Is a life made up of long years of
being in touch
with natures out of doors
I do what I do
surrounding myself to nature
without thinking of this
without thinking of that
When my life is over
I hope to depart in no other way
than looking back with love and thinking:
Oh paintings that I would have made!
It is no small thing
when all together we feel
the daily bread in danger
no small thing to be fragile
It is too beautiful
for me to dare paint it
or to be able
to form an idea of it

NOTES IN PICTURE
05:17
|
|||
Touch, move, feeling, groove,
ground, clod, flavour, path,
setting sun, falling leaves, burning weeds, landscape,
man with broom, girl in white, brothel scene, life.
Here I am watching all your notions.
Coming out with my own emotions.
Face, work, brother, light,
field, man, saying grace,
ears of wheat, yellow house, garden in Auvers,
Arlesienne, green wheat fields, fishing boats at sea.
Here I am watching love, my painter.
Coming out with the words on paper.
Listening to all the notes in picture.
Coming out with them all in whisper.
